UX/UI - Brand Strategy
PROBLEM
Social anxiety is the third largest mental health problem after depression and alcoholism, millions struggle everyday to make the simplest conversations. A lot goes on in our minds, mostly negative thoughts, which prevents us from picking up the courage to even say “Hi”, even if we do, where do we go from there?
USER RESEARCH
A total of 10 users – photographers, car enthusiasts, cosplayers, designers – who were or is a part of a community were interviewed. Results confirmed that communities can be quite toxic which makes it harder for people with social anxiety to reach out.
I wanted to create a platform that lets users connect without needing to think too much. I realize that other tools would have users reach out to other users for them to connect. I decided to do something a little different – creating a project-driven flow instead, allowing users to find interesting projects first so they have something to talk about when they reach out to potential collaborators.
ART DIRECTION
To further minimize any feelings of anxiety my users might have, branding, colour palette choices and even colour placement in the application were carefully decided to create an encouraging environment.
I use yellow where it connects users because it is the most energizing colour and it also represents courage in Japan. Yellow may represent cowardice in America but I wanted to use this to break the stigma and encourage my users to be brave and go get what they deserve.
